Dancing With the Fairies - The Fairy Ring Writing Contest

 Hear ye! Yearning for Wonderland proudly announces their very first writing contest. Ever.

I know it's what you've all been waiting for. Please calm yourself. No tears of joy, please.

By this point, you might be saying, get on with it!

Shhh, I am savoring...okay, here are the details.

This contest is in honor of The Fairy Ring (you know you want to read it! Or gift it to someone who believes in true magic in the world). For those of you who have not yet read my review of Mary Losure's The Fairy Ring (Candlewick Press, 2012), please do so to know how amazing this prize is. I know several of my readers have expressed interest in the book - now is your chance to win it for free!

Galleys have graciously been provided by the beauteous Raquel Matos of Candlewick Press.

I will announce the winners by February 22nd. I cannot wait to see all the magnificent permutations of fae encounters that your creative minds will unleash. Let the games begin!

Additional Details (updated 2/14/12)
* The winner of the contest will have their link shared on the Google+ page of Candlewick Press, woot!
* The title does not count in the 300 word limit.
* In the spirit of the contest and the book, please no erotica or slasher horror. I love dark fairytales, but give us goosebumps not buckets of blood.
* Please visit all of the entries and comment - writers love feedback!
* WordPress blogs need different HTML - email me at annabbps at gmail.com if you want me to send you the alt. code.
* If you do not have a blog and would like to enter, send me your entry to the above email and I will post it on Yearning for Wonderland.
* We have an amazing new logo, courtesy of Ruth Long @bullishink

Comment with any questions. Here is the Linky Tool code to copy to your blog's HTML:

<!-- start InLinkz script -->
<script type="text/javascript">
                document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src=http://www.inlinkz.com/cs.php?id=124780&' + new Date().getTime() + '"><\/script>');</script>
<!-- end InLinkz script -->

  1. Hello, this sounds like a wonderful thing to be a part of. I would be honored. I wrote 300 words for you, but unfortunately I am afraid I do not know what to do with that code. I tried pasting it in a new post and previewing to no avail. I perhaps will not be the only one. Look forward to participating.

    1. Hi Damien, so glad to hear you will be entering. Wordpress blogs are a little different, I think, so I will email you a different set of code

  2. Do you have a preference for when we should post it? Sooner or closer to the end of the contest? I'm thinkin sooner to help spread the word?

  6. Hi. I wrote a piece, opened up a blog account, and posted the sucker. But I am not sure I did the link thing right. I copy/pasted everything from Start Link to End inLinkz Script. Is that right? Or did I mess up something?

    Cool idea, by the way.

    1. Thanks Matt! I'm so glad you entered. You did everything perfectly as far as the linky tool. It didn't show up the HTML on your blog, which is okay, it's just the contest instructions. If you want, just double check that every character of the HTML copied into your HTML edit of the blog post.

      But you're officially entered, so no worries either way. So glad you're participating :)

    Sounds like a great idea - is the competition only open to a certain region (I'm in South Africa)?

  10. Ugh....this is my second time trying to post a comment. I'll make it short and sweet. 2 questions:

    -/will a short erotic story that includes Satan work?
    -/I would need html code for wordpress as well.

    Thank you. :)

    The "comment as" is giving me a hard time....my wordpress website is: http://wendysworksdotcom.wordpress.com/

  15. Anna,

    This contest is a great idea. :) I want to enter, but I've never ever written anything about faeries. Ever. But there's always a first time, right? I'm going to be stewing on this one for the next few days and see what I can come up with. Oh yeah, I've never written in first person, either. Ha! Wish me luck!

  16. Lovely contest idea! I entered, but the code doesn't seem to be working on my blog. (I use Blogger too.)

  17. I am trying to read through everyone's entries, but I couldn't find Lisa Cresswell's entry. The link goes straight to her blog, rather than her entry and I couldn't find it when I looked through the blog. Sorry about that.

    1. I so appreciate your diligent commenting Moonduster. Lisa's entry is in progress and will be updated when it is ready :)

  18. I was trying to comment on Tina Ramey's entry and couldn't find a way to comment. It's lovely about the cat's hymn to the child's grief...such rich sensation!

  19. Nothing like nick-of-timing it, is there? I finally posted my entry to my blog. Now I can start reading the other entries which I didn't dare do before in case they made me drool with jealousy (which I'm sure they will) and robbed me of the will to press on with my hunt for the perfect idea (which I didn't come close to finding, but pressing deadlines have a way of forcing the issue).

    Thanks so much for nagging--or rather, encouraging--me to participate. :)
